Our Coachella 2014 group photo!

Hello everyone! UPDATE!

So I haven’t updated this blog forever…I have been more invested in focusing on attempting to film and edit my YOUtube videos as far as creating content goes. I have actually uploaded a few videos since I last posted here, so I figured I’d catch you guys up just incase you missed any of my latest uploads.

I am constantly upgrading my filming set up, as well as my editing skills. I know there is always something new to learn in the field of video editing. I really do have a passion for filming and editing video. I find it so challenging and fun, and I consider it one of my hobbies. I hope to continue expanding my channel and the content I create. I would like to mention too that I plan on continuing this blog, weather it coincides with my videos or not. Another hobby I have been into is of course– my healthy eating and cooking! I love learning about new and different healthy foods– and cooking that type of food at home as well. I hope to maybe even upload some healthy eating/cooking videos to my channel. So far I  have one of these videos, it is an advice video, on how I eat healthy and different tips you can use in your own life. Anyway, I will leave you guys with the videos I have uploaded since I last updated this site. As always, thank you for all the support and you can find me on INSTAGRAM at missychicabella as well as my YOUtube channel below. Take care,

Melissa

Broccoli Cheddar Soup Recipe!

7 Nov

pot 2bowlsI’ve recently been craving a yummy hot home made Broccoli Cheddar soup, so I finally decided to try to make it for the first time. I browsed online at recipes where I always do, at allrecipes.com and I found one that seemed fairly easy for a beginner and I modified it according to the reviews other people had posted. All in all I thought it came out pretty good for it being my very first time ever making it. I think next time I will add potoato to make it a bit heartier! Here are the ingredients and recipe I used which is from allrecipes.com and this photo I took the night I made it! :) Enjoy!

Ingredients:

1/2 cup butter

1 yellow onion (chopped)

2 (16oz) Organic frozen broccoli florets

5 (14.5oz can) Organic chicken broth

1 tablespoon garlic powder/minced garlic (I used minced).

2(16oz) processed cheddar cheese, cubed into small pieces for easy melting

2 cups half and half

2/3 cup cornstarch mixed with some chicken broth

2 chicken bullion cubes

Instructions:

  1. In a stockpot, melt butter over medium heat. Cook onions and garlic in butter until softened. Stir in broccoli, and cover with chicken broth. Simmer until broccoli is tender, 10 to 15 minutes.

  2. Reduce heat, and stir in cheese cubes until melted. Mix in milk and chicken bullion cubes.

  3. In a small bowl, stir cornstarch into water until dissolved. Stir into soup; cook, stirring frequently, until thick.

Here is the link to the original recipe from allrecipes.com, I modified it a tad based on reviews.

Hexayurt for Burning Man

7 Nov

yurt  Here is a photo that I took from my Instagram of the “Hexayurt” we built for Burning Man this year. It is made out of Thermasheth Insulation foam. You could literally fit at least 8-10 people inside it, and up four people can live in it comfortably for a week. I could fully stand in the middle of the structure as well, so that was a plus! I love the fact that it is reusable too! It folds up in two large pieces that can be stored the garage. It’s also great for the heat and/or cold. There are many different sizes and shapes of these yurts you can make, the possibilities are endless!

Weekly Mini-Spa Nights!

1 Nov

DSCN0479Hello out there! Happy autumn! :) Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. In southern California it has finally cooled off a bit now that it is October.

One thing I have been doing to kickoff the fall is having a weekly “mini-spa night” at home! I call it a “mini-spa” night because this is the time I take to pamper my skin/face/hair and body.

I start off by washing my face, and then for 30 minutes I wear my Raw Honey/Sugar/Turmeric face mask which I have spoken about in the past. Honey is so good for your skin, and the sugar helps deep exfoliate, the turmeric is a nice all natural touch to help get rid of any redness, irritation, or swelling. I love exfoliating with honey/sugar once a week. It is real treat for my skin!

After 30 minutes of the face mask, I take a shower and use the Macadamia Deep Repair Mask for a deep conditioning hair treatment. This always leaves my hair smelling sooo good and feeling so refreshed and soft. I also use Lush’s lip scrub in the flavor “Popcorn” to exfoliate any dead skin from my lips. After I’m out of the shower I let my hair towel/air dry for a while, and I moisturize my face with my Avalon Organics vitamin C facial moisturizer which I use every night before bed. I also use a bit of Clean & Clear’s Acne Spot Treatment on any active breakouts I have at the moment.

My finishing touches to my “mini-spa night” are Lush’s “Lemony Butter” Cuticle Butter for my cuticles, and when I use a wide-toothed comb to comb out my hair, I spray some of the “It’s a 10″ Leave-In Condtioner from Aussie, which also leaves my hair silky and shiny!
